My next project on the railroad is to redo the background. John Rayburn's wonderful painting talents will be put to use, but first we have to prepare out canvas. Up to this point it has been a sand finished stucco wall painted blue with a few clouds here and there.

The project involves removing the "cap" and plastering the wall smooth for the mural. It took 4 laborers all day to remove the cap as it was solid concrete and had to be sawed then chipped away.

Next the chipped area is plastered flush.

The following day a fiberglass mesh was applied to the wall to reduce cracking in the final smooth coat

Then Omega "FoamTex" is applied to create a bond to the painted stucco.

With clear weather, tomorrow will be plaster day.
